We're starting an updated monthly series to make it easy to highlight which web browsers your website should be supporting.

Note - the most up to date browser market share reports are here - browser statistics

The web browser world changes frequently with new releases and updated versions so don't wait until you get caught out to check your website in those browsers.

United Kingdom - Top Web Browsers (with over 1% of market share) of November 2012

Bar chart showing most popular UK web browser in November 2012
  • IE9 - 21.88%
  • Chrome 23 - 21.43%
  • Firefox 16 - 13.58%
  • IE8 - 10.51%
  • Chrome 22 - 8.54%
  • Safari iPad - 6.16%
  • Safari 5.1 - 3.34%
  • Safari 6 - 3.28%
  • Safari 5 - 1.15%
  • IE7 - 1.01%

What we can start to see for December is that the newly released IE10 browser is beginning to gain ground. Firefox 17 will start to replace version 16 as the predominant Firefox version and, thankfully, IE7 is going to drop below 1%.

This means it will become an easier option as to whether you support IE7 and this decision will most likely rest on your target market and/or your client or management.

Worldwide - Top Web Browsers (with over 1% of market share) of November 2012

Bar chart showing most popular web browsers Worldwide in November 2012
  • Chrome 23 - 22.45%
  • IE9 - 17.65%
  • Firefox 16 - 15.29%
  • IE8 - 12%
  • Chrome 22 - 9.4%
  • Safari iPad - 2.93%
  • Safari 5.1 - 2.09%
  • Safari 6 - 1.86%
  • Firefox 15 - 1.04%
  • Firefox 17 - 1.04%
  • Safari 5 - 1.15%

Worldwide, Chrome and Firefox have higher market shares whereas IE9 is not quite so popular. More people are hanging onto IE8 but we are losing IE7, as it has already dropped below 1%. Firefox 17 is starting to become adopted and this is increasing in December.

The next instalment will be in early January and then we'll release a similar update in the first week of every month covering the previous months browser statistics.
